"A WHALE OF A TALE"
In promotion of the new Whales Are Superherloes! exhibit, this immersive experience was created to promote, engage and inspire students, the community, members and donors.
1. An educational video was created that went into SB County and Ventura classrooms where students learned about whales and their environments.
2. After watching the video, students were asked to submit drawings of whales and/or anything ocean related, using only crayons on 8 1/2 x 11 paper.
3. Hundreds of submissions were received, and pieces of each artwork were cut out and blown up to create an immersive full room underwater world through the eyes of a child.
"MERMAIDS"
To celebrate the launch of the new "Mermaids" exhibit, multiple mermaid events were concepted:
1. Mermaid Sighting
(3) real life mermaids were staged on the Ranger boat in the harbor, just outside SBMM.
2. Photo with a Mermaid - public event
Kids and adults young at heart had an opportunity of a photo with a mermaid, inside of a custom-made photo set. While standing in line there were mini educational books custom made, handed out to event guests, allowing mermaids to tell their stories of their underwater friends and ecosystems.
3. 2. Photo with a Mermaid - private donor event.
An upscale version of the public event was hosted for VIP donors with themed cocktails, food, music and of course live mermaids!
Of note: The public mermaid sighting and photo with a mermaid day clocked one of the highest foot traffic days in museum recorded history!
